Within the shadows of trash-strewn streets, millions of children are starving – both physically and spiritually.
These children come from all backgrounds, yet they all share a common need: The need for a family that can feed them, a family that will not hurt them, and a family that sends them to school and church instead of to the garbage dump.
Loving Shepherd is providing these loving families through its Homes of Hope program.
Within each Home of Hope, a local Christian couple cares for orphans or children whose parents can no longer take care of them. For instance, in one LSM Home of Hope, Loving Shepherd brought in two brothers who, after their parents died, had been living with their blind grandmother and invalid grandfather.
Another boy came to the home after losing his father, and after his mother lost her leg in an accident.
In the Homes of Hope, these children receive three healthy meals a day. Instead of sleeping on the streets, they sleep on comfortable beds, and they spend the day at school instead of scrounging and begging to survive.
More importantly, however, is the fact that the Christian house parents lead the children in daily prayers and devotions, and they take the children to church each Sunday.
Loving Shepherd is building Homes of Hope in developing countries around the world, including Haiti, Romania, India and Ethiopia.
